Restless, free sound
“Embryo” from Munich performed at the Kassel School of Engineering (lex).
The music of “Embryo” from Munich, who gave a concert at the School of Engineering at Wilhelmshöher Allee, sounded like an advanced version of the once most successful German rock group Amon Düül. Listeners who had been expecting rock-jazz a la Kriegel or similar soon realized that this group preferred a much more restless, free “sound”. Roman Bunka on guitar and Uwe Müllrich on bass in particular often played long improvised passages, some of which were not quite successfully returned to the basic theme. Nevertheless, there is no doubt about the solo skills, also of the other two band members Michael Wehmeyer and Christian Burchard, who played vibraphone after the break and left his place to Roman Bunka. Perhaps the group should bring a little more clarity to their playing, then they wouldn't have to shy away from comparison with other renowned jazz-rock groups.
